“The Greens won’t do anything about it”

As I was leaving the house the other morning, I took a quick look in the letterbox and found a small, fridge magnet-sized flyer:
I have to confess, I have no idea what the message in this is supposed to be. Why use the election cycle as the frame of reference? Is this an election ad? If so, where is the ‘Authorised by…’ fine print? Is whomever this flyer advertises planning to stop immigration? And why pick on the Greens?
I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person, but for the life of me, I just don’t understand!

January 18th, 2010 at 11:59 am[…] it gets better. Check out J Citizen’s comments at the Inner West Courier and at matjjin-nehen. Sounds like he’s a bit of a broken […]

Hi jangari,
I also received one of these flyers and I was as perplexed as you (and asked for advice on Possum’s blog which led me here).
I got my flyer in Glebe, near Wentworth Park. Are you in that area? I’m wondering how widespread this flyer has been?

Looks very familiar in anonymous and amateur style to things seen around Bennelong in the latter days before the 2007 election. They generally looked as though they were printed on someone’s PC and used similar sort of smarmy tone. We knew these to be coming from the Exclusive Brethren.
Have you referred this to the AEC? By law if this is for a party/lobby group this needs that “Authorised by” bit, to prevent scaremongering and defamation.

Thanks Susan. I’ve forwarded it to the AEC. Odd, I didn’t know the Exclusive Brethren had anything in particular against immigration. And they’re meant to be entirely apolitical, at the end of the day.
Yes, mbox, I’m just up the road from Wentworth Park. Maybe it’s just a local crackpot; no shortage of them.

The weird thing about all this right-wing stuff is that immigration has consistently been higher under conservative governments for the past few decades.
What have the Greens got to do with it?
January 6th, 2010 at 6:07 pm
Why the Greens?
Because the Greens are supposed to care about the environment but say *nothing* about the extra pollution, extra hot showers, extra clothes dryers, extra native roadkill, extra *everything detrimental to the environment* exacerbated by immigration.
Whenever immigration comes up, they just start talking about ‘refugees’, who only account for 9% of it.

Good old “J Citizen” is behind the leaflet. He puts it in mailboxes and then trawls the web looking for people talking about it. I had to block him from my blog. And he seems to do one every year, just updating the numbers. He’s quite the broken record.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Who’s trawling the web like a trashy hooker, Kim Powell, so-called “journalist” from [edited]?
You block me from your own blog after refusing to actually debate the issue, then continue commenting about me while I can’t respond, commit libel by publishing lies about me, and publicly discuss the contents of my private emails.
I wonder what your employer will think when he (and it is a he, isn’t it Ms Wimmin Power) finds out you insolently alienated the person behind the scoop of the week/month/year/century, who will now give any and all exclusive interviews only to your competitors.
Enjoy what’s left of your “career”, nipples.

jangara, I’m blocked from the newswithnipples blog, so there’s no point addressing me there.
“I’ve reported this to the electoral commission”
The leaflet you received is no longer being distributed, so the AEC’s comments don’t apply (unless you’ve also sent them the new leaflet and got the same answer). The leaflets no longer refer to elections or the Greens.
“If anyone sees someone dropping such leaflets, approach them and demand their name, or take a photo. …evidence that he is the culprit”
Isn’t this just a little bit pathetically Orwellian?
And how do you identify who J Citizen is exactly?
The AEC isn’t ASIO, you know.
“J. Citizen, you’re completely welcome to have the debate if you like. But if you want to take it out of the anonymity of the web…”
That’s the problem. I’m not welcome to debate this on the web (nipples being Exhibit A) or off it.
I’ve had enough of arrogant, psychotic progressives silencing alternative opinions (and not just this issue either: ALL issues) and barging full steam ahead to their delusional self-contradictory utopia, regardless of the consequences.

So you are the distributor of these leaflets?
Regarding your being blocked from newswithnipples, my understanding is that it was due to some unsavoury comments in a personal email to Kim. Either way, she fully has the right to allow you or disallow you to comment on her own personal blog. Her comment policy is quite transparent and reasonable.
Instead of whingeing about censorship, how about you do what the rest of us did and start your own blog is you want unfettered access to the online debate. If that doesn’t float yer boat, you could always come out from the shadows and have the debate in the letters sections of the print media, or if you want to distribute electoral advertising, then do it legally and have it authorised.
And you’re right; the AEC isn’t ASIO. That’s why I’ve forwarded all information I’ve got to the AFP as suggested by the AEC, as they believe your leaflets to be a serious breach of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918, and while I can’t identify who “J. Citizen” is, the AFP only have to look at your IP address and call Unwired.
Have a nice day.

J citizen, unfortunately I have come across your comments on other sites and I think you are someone to be feared. Not because of your intellect, valid arguments or reasoned opinion but because you are a motivated bigot. Hitler was fairly motivated, Mugabe is pretty motivated and so are the KKK (still) or the BNP or any other number of right wing racist pseudo political nutballs! I am not going to debate you because you are not worthy of a debate. You are also aggressive, irrational, angry and will no doubt dismiss any opinion of mine, or other people that you disagree with, as a left wing conspiracy regardless of any potential merit.
There are plenty of racist blogs out there, go and haunt them and you will find a consensus. In the meantime I recommend that any of the blog owners that you have commented on report you to the AFP because inciting racism and hate crimes is actually illegal and I wouldn’t be surprised if the AFP have a file on you already given that you have been doing this for some time.
If you reply to my comment, I assure you I will not be replying to you not because you opine so well but because I have better things to do.

P.S
“finds out you insolently alienated the person behind the scoop of the week/month/year/century”
too hilarious by far.

My emails (filled with contempt, but not name-calling as she libellously claims) to Powell were sent after being blocked.
She blocked me because of the comments on her blog. Read them yourself. See if you can find a legitimate reason to block me there.
Her comments policy is deliberately vague.
Powell is still commenting about the comments on this blog on her own blog, but doesn’t respond here or unblock me. So much for credibility.
BTW Powell, every person of historical significance was once a nobody. Would you be proud to be remembered as the journo who scoffed at nobody-Lenin, nobody-Mao or nobody-Mussolini?
Start my own blog? Why should I have to. You’re the ones posting articles about the leaflets. But I can’t respond?
Letters to the Editor? You mean the guys who employ people like Powell? Pur-lease. The time for wussy-pussy please-sir letters is over.
I’m sure the AFP have better things to do with their time.
You and others’ hysterical overreaction to a tiny piece of paper you could’ve just thrown away, just makes you look pathetic.
January 19th, 2010 at 9:08 am
Is ‘wimmin power’ also ‘newswithnipples’ (aka Kim Powell)?
“go and haunt them and you will find a consensus.”
Actually you won’t. And I wouldn’t bother as I’m not racist, I’m an organic-culturalist.
I support Japan being Japanese and sympathise with those like Mishima, who regret the loss of Japanese traditions (and don’t jump for joy. I won’t be committing seppuku any time soon).
It’s leftist progressives (schizophrenically universalist and multiculturalist at the same time?!) who want consensus thinking on every subject.
“report you to the AFP because inciting racism and hate crimes”
WHAT?!! Where have I incited anything of the sort?
This is the ridiculous overreaction people like me have to deal with all the time.
You cannot discuss anything without this absurd Nazi-hysteria popping up. It’s pathetic and quite deranged.
You are the danger to our society.
“I have better things to do”.
No, apparently you don’t.

“Yeah, right, like your dirty little leaflet is the scoop of the century. It’s not even the scoop of the hour”
FYI “journalist”: scoop = news (that’s your job, right?)
For something so trivial, you and others seem to be devoting a hell of a lot of time to it. Blogging, searching the net for other references, forwarding documents to the Federal Police.
If this isn’t a “scoop”, then it doesn’t belong on your news-blog, and if it is you just handed it to your competitors.
