The unintended consequences seem in fact to be quite deliberate strategies aimed at undermining not just remote communities but more centrally the organizations and programs within those communities.

I blogged a month ago about the threat to the art centre in Tennant Creek (http://www.kimberlychristen.com/?p=175). Now after DEWR saying directly to  the art center director that they will &quot;not support artists&quot; the only certainty is that the 25 women who work there will now be on work for the dole--and asked to &quot;beautify&quot; the grounds--but as the DEWR rep said &quot;they can paint rainwater tanks.&quot;  Seriously.</description>
