The unintended consequences seem in fact to be quite deliberate strategies aimed at undermining not just remote communities but more centrally the organizations and programs within those communities. I blogged a month ago about the threat to the art centre in Tennant Creek (http://www.kimberlychristen.com/?p=175). Now after DEWR saying directly to the art center director that they will "not support artists" the only certainty is that the 25 women who work there will now be on work for the dole--and asked to "beautify" the grounds--but as the DEWR rep said "they can paint rainwater tanks." Seriously. Indeed!
